About

In the 1960s radical culture breeding ground of downtown New York City, there were two hometown bands The Velvet Underground and The Fugs. It took time, but today Lou Reed and The Velvets are internationally revered rock & roll legends; The Fugs not so much. And yet, both bands pushed boundaries with radical sounds and iconic attitudes that influenced rock music more than and other 60s bands. Through interviews with head Fug Ed Sanders and elusive drummer Ken Weaver, as well as underground legends such as Aline & R. Crumb, Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group), Chris Stein (Blondie), and others, FUGS FILM! recounts the short but highly influential career of The Fugs. A band that fused poetry and Rock and Roll and put the punk into folk music. The film also documents the bands anti-authoritarian political actions defying censorship rules and protesting the Vietnam War - including their famous levitation of the Pentagon in 1967. FUGS FILM! is more than just a music doc about an irreverent band, its an emotional call for citizens of the world to stand-up for freedom, democracy, and just the right amount of crazy.
