Opened in 1907 and renamed in 1972, Great American Music Hall is an ornate, intimate concert hall in San Francisco’s Tenderloin known for indie rock, jazz, folk, and comedy. Landmark performances and recordings here include the Grateful Dead’s 1975 “One from the Vault” and Robin Williams’ 1982 HBO special, set against gilded balconies and frescoes. The venue remains a beloved mid-sized, independently run room close to downtown nightlife.
