Formed in 2018 (originally as Qualia Noir) and later rebranded to The Backfires, the band released the EP Consider the Backfires in 2021 following earlier singles such as "Anything" (2020). Their music has accumulated notable streaming numbers and the group has toured between the UK and U.S. They have received coverage from outlets including BroadwayWorld and BBC Introducing and have played venues such as Sonia in Cambridge.
