Studio 54 was a legendary New York City nightclub opened in April 1977 by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager; it became an international symbol of late?1970s nightlife and celebrity culture. The club closed in early 1980 after legal and tax convictions of its owners, and the building was later converted to a Broadway theater operated by the Roundabout Theatre Company. The Studio 54 name has been kept alive through exhibitions, a SiriusXM channel and a modern record imprint.
