Formed in 1978, the Beat (known in North America as The English Beat) released their debut album I Just Can't Stop It in 1980, which included the hit single "Mirror in the Bathroom". The original group split in 1983 and members went on to form acts including General Public and Fine Young Cannibals. Since the 2000s Dave Wakeling has fronted a U.S.-based lineup touring and recording as The English Beat.
