Powerful vocals, interweaving catchy melodies, injecting life and soul into synthetic beats, basslines and bleeps. Conversation were formed in December 2009 after Lee had placed an ad on the Joinmyband.co.uk website seeking “an extremely talented vocalist to form a synth pop group”, James was one of the few to reply. Written with his own synthpop duo in mind, Lee had started a song called “Tell me I’m the one” and so sent James an mp3 of the first verse and chorus via email. On a cold night at Practice Sheffield rehearsal rooms a week later, they met up and James performed an improved melody to the song with ideas for another two verses. When asked if James had any ideas for a new song, he played a two chord sequence on acoustic guitar, an idea that had been floating around his head but not knowing what to do with it. Lee was able to translate this into a keyboard part and suddenly the main chord stabs to the song that we now know as “When I fall” was born. January 2010 the pair set themselves a target to be gig ready in three months. Under the banner of Steel City Synthpop a date was set for March 31st at The Grapes in Sheffield. A week prior to launch however a booking in Manchester saw the duo debut at Jabez Clegg. Following a string of successful gigs around Sheffield, August saw the boys travelling to Norwich, a city with a vibrant electronic music scene. The event, Artificial 01> was a roaring success with future events planned for 2011 and hopefully coming to Sheffield in association with their very own Steel City Synth Pop promotion. The band continued to write new material between them, occasionally dipping into the realms of cover versions just to add variety and familiarity to their live sets, their renditions of "Rolling in the deep" (Adele) and DISCO 2000 (Pulp) proving to be massive crowd pleasers, transforming songs seamlessly from their original musical genres into the electronic world. However - May 29th 2011 saw the last live performance from the duo who have now gone their separate ways. A BIG thank you to all who followed us - it's been a blast. Thanks also to those bands who performed at our Steel City synthpop events, and those who had requested to perform at future events, it's a shame to have had to end it but we wish you well. Keep music live, even if it's electronic, and enjoy every moment!
